My goal of participating in this program is to gain the knowledge and understanding of running a successful practice, while being a respected leader for my colleagues. I believe SHIP is the best opportunity to see first hand how and why veterinary practices are successful businesses. Gaining the hands on experience into the business aspect of a veterinary practice is extremely hard and why I find SHIP to be such an amazing opportunity.

Throughout my time in the field I have always admired Veterinarians who were able to gain the respect of their employees and cliental. I feel that this is a very hard skill to have especially in today's age. I believe I have great leadership ability and want to further understand how practice owners find the balance between leading and ownership. I think this is an amazing skill to have. SHIP would provide me with this opportunity and open up my horizons into how I can eventually run my own practice before I am a professional.

I plan to provide the practice with both an positive passionate personality with an extensive knowledge of intensive anesthesia monitoring abilities. I am eager to both learn and teach creating an environment in which people enjoy attending their job.

The two domains I would chose to invest this profit would be my current employees and new equipment. The most important domain is to reward the current employees on a job well done. Keeping these individuals happy and driven is essential to the success of the team and why there was such a large profit in the first place. The other way in which I can use this money is to invest in new equipment that can provide a new revenue stream for the clinic. I think that this will not only help provide additional income, but also provide my team with continuous education. Continuing education keeps employees driven and help to provide pride in the work being done.

The way in which I would attempt to turn things around is with incentives. I would employ a small achievable goal such as a referral discounts for clients and a referral bonus to employees. By providing small incentives such as these, the return would be a large quantity of advertising for the hospital. This advertising would then be met with a guaranteed return on investment. The reason I say this is clients and employees would be paid in terms of how successful their advertising was. It would be a very small price to pay to increase cliental and provide the clinic with a long term income strategy.

I am seeking business ownership because I am driven to further grow the veterinary field in a more positive manner. I want to create a business model that will provide my employees with an environment that makes them excited about their job. In the current state many members of the field are struggling and burnt out. I feel the best way for me to make a change is through ownership. Through ownership I can hire those individuals who are excited and will bring passion and excitement to my practice. Passion is a very infectious trait to have and can go a long way for the members of your team. Whether it be assistants, techs, veterinarians, or practice managers I want to create the team who takes pride in what they do and every day put their best foot forward. This would in turn make me a proud owner and a small step toward a positive change in an amazing field of work.
