RECOVER Updates for CPR

This lesson provides a comprehensive overview of CPR and the updated 2024 RECOVER Guidelines. CPR training should be updated and practiced frequently to achieve the best possible outcome in cases of true arrest. This lesson will cover the recognition of arrest in veterinary patients, basic and advanced life support techniques, and post-arrest care by providing an overview of the RECOVER guidelines to empower the team to calmly and confidently take informed action when it’s needed most.

Following this lecture, you should be able to:

  1. Recognize the signs of cardiac and/or respiratory arrest in dogs and cats.
  2. Understand the components of both basic and advanced CPR
  3. Understand the roles of each team member in an arrest situation.
  4. Recognize the return of spontaneous circulation is generally the beginning of a long road to (possible) recovery.
  5. Set appropriate expectations for pet owners and team regarding the pet’s prognosis.
