Spay/Neuter Timing & Techniques

Phillip Bushby, DVM, MS, DACVS

There was a time, not long ago, when making recommendations for the age of spaying/neutering was straight forward but as you know, that is no longer the case and in fact, the data seems to get muddier with time. In response to the confusion, Suveto has created a dynamic and insightful two-part lecture series led by an award-winning, respected leader in this debate, so you will be able to confidently stand by your recommendations. In the first session, we’ll demystify the data that led to the confusion in the first place. The second session will feature engaging discussions and detailed video demonstrations of safe, efficient spay and neuter techniques, including the intricacies of pediatric spay/neuter procedures. These sessions are ideal for early-career veterinarians and those who mentor them (i.e., medical directors and senior associates).

Through this two-part series, you will learn:

  • How to interpret the data that led to the confusion in the first place, as well as how to educate your clients on the appropriate age to spay or neuter their dogs and cats,
  • Highly efficient spay/neuter techniques for dogs and cats, taught in a way that both seasoned clinicians and early-career veterinarians will find valuable, and,
  • Specific techniques such as the ideal location for spay incisions, tattoo placement, scrotal castration, the modified Miller’s knot, the pedicle tie, and the cord tie.
