Practice History

The Carlyle Animal Hospital was establisted in 1984 by Dr. Neil Schaffer, born in  Forrest, IL.   He and his wife, Melody, built the practice from the ground up and were initially it’s only 2 employees.   Dr. Schaffer had several veterinarians helping out over the years, but found a partner in 2007 in then newly graduated Dr. Michelle Scott, originally of Peoria, IL.    Dr. Scott bought in to the practice in 2012 and finished the purchase in January, 2020.   Dr. Stephanie Thole, a 2019 graduate of the University of Missouri, but originally from Clinton County, IL, joined the veterinary staff in 2019, and Dr. Schaffer retired at the end of May, 2020.

We don't restrict the level of care that we offer even though our area is rural.

Scope of Service

General Practice from puppy visits to geriatric care. Preventative medicine - vaccinations, screening bloodwork, examinations Dentistry - with dental radiography and high speed drill Surgery - Spay, Neuter cats, dogs, rarely rabbits; Exploratories, gastrotomies, enterotomies, cystotomies, lumpectomies, diaphragmatic hernia repair, orthopedics (we do not currently plate) - CCL repair, FHNE, fracture repair etc.
