SUMMARY:From Feelings to Flow: Using Empathy to Help Difficult Conversations Move Forward Date & Time
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE> \nFear\, anger\, guilt\, grief\, disappointment\, and frustration are part of veterinary medicine—for clients\, teams\, and for us. When emotion enters a conversation\, we may rush to reassure\, explain\, fix the problem\, or avoid the feeling altogether. Unfortunately\, that can leave everyone working harder while the conversation goes nowhere. This webinar makes empathy practical. Participants will learn how to recognize emotion\, understand another person’s perspective without necessarily agreeing with it\, communicate that understanding\, and then help the conversation move toward what comes next. The OVMA content frames empathy as the “doing” of feelings: a usable skill that can help both natural “feelers” and people who are less comfortable with emotion. The goal isn’t to absorb everyone else’s feelings or make difficult emotions disappear. It is to respond in a way that helps people feel understood while protecting your own emotional energy and keeping the conversation productive. \nLearning objectives\nBy the end of this webinar\, participants will be able to: \n1. Recognize and acknowledge emotion before attempting to solve the problem\, helping emotionally charged conversations return to productive discussion more efficiently. \n2. Differentiate empathy from agreement\, reassurance\, and taking responsibility for another person’s feelings\, reducing emotional overextension and frustration. \n3. Use concise empathic responses that support connection and forward movement\, contributing to stronger client and team relationships and a more sustainable\, satisfying workday.
